Tourist Center At Assan Barrage, Uttarakhand
The Garhwal Mandal Vikas Ngam (GMVN) Tourist Centre at Assan barrage forms a part of the larger precinct of the Assan Conservation Reserve (ACR) which comprises a fresh water reservoir, a Reserve Forest Area of Rampur Mandi Forest Block, a stretch of Assan river and Yamuna hydel canal near village Dhalipur in Dehradun district of the state of Uttarakhand.
The Development of tourism infrastructure facilities at Assan Barrage, Dehradun focuses on the Tourist centre at Assan Barrage which offers facilities like water skating motor boating, paddling etc. The new design proposal for the GNVM Tourist centre would mainly include redesigning/improving the infrastructure within the site with a focus on two design aspects - the tourism oriented needs and staff oriented needs. This includes cottages for tourists 4 nos, dormitories 2 nos., open restaurant and kitchen block, reception, toilet block, servants quarters, jetties for boating, walkways, open air amphitheatre, parking and landscaping.
The site of the GMVN Tourist Centre is immediately surrounded by the Dhalipur lake and a part of the forest reserve. The aim is to design a plan which is compatible to the fragile landscape of Assan barrage precinct. Development of tourism infrastructure would conform to environment friendly, low impact architecture and would conserve the ecological integrity of the area.
