Project Title: Mapping of Drainage Pattern to Identify the Inlets of Runoff in Nal Sarovar, The only Ramsar site of Gujarat

Project Description: Nal Sarovar bird sanctuary is an important and well known wetland in Gujarat. This wetland covers an area of 12,000 ha and is located at 22°46’33’’N 72°02’21’’E. The wetland is a natural depression formed by the joining of two gulfs on both sides i.e. Gulf of Kachcch and Gulf of Khambhat. The geographic location and climatic conditions of the wetlands aids in sustaining the high diversity of avifauna including resident-migratory as well as migratory species.

Project Description: Ulhas River originates at Budhemal Lake near Rajmachi Fort, 8216.55 meters above the sea level, traverses through Sahyadrian ranges of hilly tracks of Western Ghats and meets the Arabian Sea at Vasai Fort in Thane District. The Ulhas drains an area of 4,637 sq. km which lies completely in Maharashtra. The total length of this West flowing river from its origin to its outfall in to the Arabian Sea is 122 km. From its origin, it flows westward through Raigad and Thane districts of Maharashtra, along Kulgaon-Badlapur, north to Ulhasnagar (to which it gives its name) and on to Kalyan.
Project Title: Natural and Built Heritage mapping of Ulhas River

Project Description: Ulhas River originates in the Sahyadri mountains near Lonavala. It starts its journey northwards at the height 800 meters above MSL. The total length of this west flowing river from its origin to its outfall in to the Arabian Sea is 122 kms. It enters in to the deep valley near Rajmachi Hills and drops its height by almost 700 meters by the time it reaches Karjat town, within just 10 kms of distance. Being extremely steep, hilly and inaccessible; catchment area of river is in fairly good condition with deciduous and semi-deciduous forests.

The Ulhas River originates from Tungarli Lake in Rajmachi, Lonavala in Maharashtra and meets the Arabian sea near Mumbai.
The total length of the river is approximately 122 kms .The Ulhas basin lies between North latitudes of 18° 44′ to 19° 42′ and East longitudes of 72° 45′ to 73° 48′.
